Ellen Cosgrove is a remarkable song interpreter, captivating live performer and accomplished songwriter. Her distinctive voice, placed alongside megastars Amy Winehouse and Florence Welch by John Meagher of The Independent, has the ability to convey a range and depth of emotion like few of her generation.
While pursuing a vocal studies course in the UK at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, Ellen formed and led an 8-piece pop band called Ellen & the Echo. The band released an EP after writing for the soundtrack of the film “City of Dreamers”, an award-winning independent release in which Ellen played the leading role.
Ellen’s latest release is a 14-track album called “Unexamined Emotions”, recorded in Dublin with producer Chris Kabs and songwriter Seán Silke.
Chris Kabs is a respected maverick producer and performer on the Dublin Afro-Irish pop/dance scene. A strong songwriter, his production skills have him in significant demand. As well as his own critically acclaimed original material Chris has produced some of Ireland’s top emerging pop, soul and R&B acts including the much raved about JyellowL.
The writing mastermind behind all 14 tracks making up “Unexamined Emotions” is Dubliner Seán Silke, one of Ireland’s most prolific and dedicated songwriters working in music today. “Unexamined Emotions” aims to marry an infectious pop sound with lyrically unusual and intelligent subject matter; to satisfy the dancing feet, the beating heart and the inquisitive mind.
